Anxiety

Depression

Stress

Stress is part of everyday life. Burning the supper, living with divorce, hosting a party, receiving a promotion, moving, losing a child, going on vacation, planning a wedding . . . stress is a fact of life.

Contrary to popular belief, however, stress is not the pressure from the outside – the divorce, the death or the burned supper. Those are stressors. The response you make to those situations is what constitutes stress. The distinction is important. Knowing the difference will determine whether you manage stress in a healthy manner or a self-defeating way. Stressors can become destructive if not handled properly. They can turn stress into distress.

If you discover that you’re more tired, depressed, frustrated or restless than usual; your relationships are no longer satisfying; if your sleeping patterns change or your weight goes up or down dramatically, you may be mismanaging stress.
